Here we have a top quality Mid-Century Silver Plate Four Piece Tea Set in the Art Deco style. The set consists of a teapot, a hot water jug, a cream jug and a sugar bowl. All four pieces are of circular bulbous form with stepped bases and there are stepped finials on the teapot and hot water jug. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. The set was made in London by the world famous firm Garrard & Co and dates to around the 1950s/60s. Garrard & Co traces its history back to the firm founded by John Wickes in 1722. Robert Garrard became a partner in the firm in 1792 and sole proprietor in 1802. It passed through several members of the Garrard family becoming Garrard & Co in 1909 and later absorbing The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company in 1952. Renowned for the quality of their items, Garrard & Co remains one of the foremost jewellers and silversmiths in the world today. Condition is very good with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss except to a slight extent on the inside base of the teapot and hot water jug and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs as these form part of the description. This is a full size family tea set. The teapot is 27.3cm / 10.7ins from spout to handle, 14.5cm / 5.7ins across the body and 15cm / 5.9ins high. The hot water jug is 18.7cm / 7.3ins from lip to handle, 8.9cm / 3.5ins across the body and 24.1cm / 9.5ins high. The cream jug is 10.2cm / 4ins from lip to handle, 6cm / 2.3ins across the body and 12.2cm / 4.8ins high. The sugar bowl is 13.3cm / 5.2ins from handle to handle, 9.3cm / 3.6ins across the body and 10cm / 3.9ins high. The set of four pieces weighs in at 1.82kg / 64.3oz. Each piece is stamped on the bottom with Garrard & Co, 112 Regent Street, Regent Plate (the brand name they inherited from The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co) and Silver on Copper.
